"You fall, you rise, you make mistakes, you live, you learn. You’re human, not perfect. You've been hurt, but you’re alive. Think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, and to be with people you love. Sometimes there is sadness in our journey, but there is also lots of beauty. We must keep putting one foot in front of the other even when we hurt, for we will never know what is waiting for us just around the bend..."
I believe that everything happens for a reason, whether it's to learn something or to just wake up and change. Most people live their lives without changing anything, never listening to the little hints life sends but instead ignoring them and blaming everyone else. Until its too late, so to get your attention life just has to smack you in the face sometimes.
Of course I am not saying that you should never be upset or angry, I actually want you to get pissed when shit hits the fan but afterwards (which can be 1 hour or 1 year) you will understand why things happened the way they did. Or not, because we don't always need to understand everything.
Speaking of shit hitting the fan, when I did the shoot for ISABELLA RAE, we were doing the last look when it started to rain. We decided to head back to Boise knowing that we would find a cool dry spot along the way.
Almost back in Boise I saw these cool lumber storage things, just tall wooden poles with a roof, 3 or 4 of them, right off the highway. I took the exit, pulled up onto the lot (no fence, no gate, but a FOR SALE sign). Within 1 minute, this guy comes out of this run-down building that was on the lot, steering towards us like a bull on steroids, with the crazy eyes of a lemur that just got done doing all the coke in the world.
I wasn't sure what he wanted, always believing in the good in people, thinking he wants to just see what we were up to. Well, I thought wrong, he came closer really fast and stood right in front of my car, looking at us with those crazy eyes, he slammed his fist into my hood.
Now, image 3 girls in the car screaming at me GO GO GOOOO!!! Legs shaking and thinking that's it, I put the car in reverse and raced down the hill as fast as I could, all while crazy guy kept running after us, somehow making it over to my side of the car and pounding against my window and flipping us off. I thought we all would end up dead in that guys basement along with who knows what.
It felt like a the Bruce Willis action movie from the 90s with a touch of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Scary as shit.
Anyway, we drove off as fast as we could. Being out of reach we called 911 and told them about the crazy scary dude living in an abandoned place attacking girls in cars. They knew exactly who we were talking about and reassured us that we are not the first ones and he is just that, a crazy dude. There is nothing anyone can do. End of story.
What a trip. Literally.
Lessons learned: Don't drive onto empty lots + crazy people are everywhere.
